Thanks, Cotty. That is an interesting perspective, and just the sort of thing I was seeking. On this side of the pond, we don't know enough about the issues or the personalities to make any sense of what's happening. The videos of demonstrations in the streets certainly make it clear that

We are on a ship, northbound along the Peruvian/Ecuadorian coast. Pretty much confined to quarters. Meg wasn’t feeling well, went to see the ship’s Med staff. Good news, they gave her good meds and advice. Bad news, they said that with her fever she is probably infectious and is in “isolation.”

A couple nights ago I had a very nice dinner at a Basque restaurant in San Juan Bautista. Unfortunately I wasn’t able (didn’t even try) to get photos of the barn owls flying around, but I did get a couple of the mission.
