At least you can be satisfied because you were able to prove two things:
a. bad things sometimes do happen to good people;
b. it does make sense to carry a back-up body, or two, or three...

bad luck indeed. Perhaps your LX has the sticky mirror problem. The GR1
doesn't surprise me. They're great little cameras, but everyone I know who
has one has had problems with them.
Maybe a trip to Lourdes is in order...
