David, if you ever find something on how to reset the counter please post here. My 220 is doing the same thing, although I am still able to print so far. Eventually it will refuse, I guess. In the meantime I do have the 1800 and it is almost new. I did a quick look on the web and only found

I thought I had that utility somewhere on my system. But apparently no longer. It will not only reset the cleaning pad count, but the ink count too, so you can use all the ink in your cartridges. If you do that you need to watch it so you replace them as soon as they start skipping. That means
