A photo-friend and I took a walk around the museum last week. It stands on a
hill next to the Schuylkill River, on the site of Philly’s first public water
reservoir (circa 1815). The dam was built in 1821, and powered pumps via
waterwheels to replace unreliable steam engines. The Art Museum building opened
in 1928, replacing a much smaller building a few miles away in Fairmount Park.

Comments always appreciated, whether plaudits, brickbats, or shrugs.
