I suppose Bob had a warranty on a recent repair. One of the advantages
of living in the EU.
That notwithstanding, if you buy a used camera from a professional

Stef can test it, he should be old enough now :-) He has a Bronnie kit!

I hope the MX surgery is successful too, lovely cameras.
Indeed. I had a LX and
significant
shutter lag. I had it serviced, including mirror foam replacement, but after
two or three more rolls there was still a bit of a problem with the shutter,
which I had fixed under warranty.
Anyway, the moral is, don’t believe anything until you’ve film-tested it!
Good luck! I guess your
Thanks Ralph,
The shutter times seem accurate, certainly at the slower speeds. The shutter
curtains appear to be playing ball! I have no way of checking the faster times
and it’s not worth sending it off for that to be done. The true test can be
with a roll of film.
This MX is my very first

Before you start working on that camera: have you checked the shutter?
The MX's shutter curtains have a tendency to play tag when they get old,
resulting in somewhat different exposure across the frame.

Hi Pentaxians
Appreciate any advice in replacing light seals and mirror foam in an MX. I have
a generic foam kit coming, will need to cut to size. Thinking of isopropyl
alcohol to clear out the old gunk?
Any pointers welcome thanks.

You may find them on eBay. The mirror bumper should be 3mm thick, no less.

Any good source for the LX mirror rest foam here in Canada ?
I definitely prefer a DIY solution than having a moron ruin my camera.
Woah,

The Caveman never announces his entrances and exits.
He just appears out of ether. Then before you know

Hi Wendy, I've got one of the kits from ebay and can vouch that they work
really well. I was/am very pleased with mine. I have used it on 2 cameras so
far with perfect success.

All,
My recent camera body acquisition has mirror foam which is totally shot. I
tried out the mirror lock-up function and it stayed locked up i.e. stuck to
the foam!
Now the mirror is covered in sticky stuff. What's the best way to clean it off?
Have any of you used the foam kits offered on
Hi Wendy,
Fargo sells foam replacement kits:

I did an ME Super about two months ago, and I thought it was pretty
easy. The kit that I got has different sizes of foam, I had to do the
back too. You might want to check that. I used Naphtha (lighter fluid)
to remove
some to try out.

Hi Wendy,
I, as a challenge, replaced the mirror foam and my latest Spotmatic F.
It had the same problem as yours.
I went to a hardware store and found some light weather stripping. It it
was grey and fairly open and not dense. I memoved the old foam with tweasers
and a plastic cuticle
