I wanted the eyes to be a bit more

eye sockets. I assumed that was
causing doubt as to the reality of
it's being alive. HA!!

I kinda was serious... because the photo was so very very sharp and you
mentioned being hard
to fine in your bird book... since I was , myself, fooled by a faux owl
, I thought it possible..
His eyes don't look quite real, which I guess is just the way the light
was striking him. Glad
to hear
If it's the hazy eyes you're looking
at, I lightened the dark eye sockets
to bring out the pupils.

Yes, Ferruginous you attached
looks likely.
The example in my field guide
is much darker. May be an issue
of age and/or gender.

Don't know if you're serious, but in
case you are, I watched it sail in and
land on the pole in addition to
continuous head motion while I shot.

Just a SWAG, but I think "Ferruginous Hawk"; light morph.

I'll continue to hope for positive
identification. Maybe Ann's library
of bird books will eventually settle
the question..(?)

Thanks, Dan. I can appreciate your
suggestions to "clean up" the scene,
as was done with the original, but
this was for Alan's consideration in
determining whether it is a hawk or
falcon. I still say, "Hawk."

Boy, he is staring you down there!
I like the bird's pose, the overall composition, the details in the bird
and the pole, and the stark blue sky. The wood, insulator and wiring on
the upper right add to the scene, IMO, but the OoF wires and hardware on
the left side are a bit distracting.
