Re: K-1 discontinued (mk ii version likely)
Conjecture is that the K-1 Mk II would be getting the Sony A7R II/A7R III 42 MP sensor. This makes sense, as Pentax makes it living using Sony sensors, after Sony has had a given time of using them for their own competitive advantage first. Presumably Pentax gets them at a reduced price after they have been in production for a year or two also, and all of the economies of scale have kicked in. From a DXO standpoint, the K-1 was rated a 96, while the A7R II was rated 98 and the A7R III (same sensor) was rated 100 (tied with the Nikon D850). The only two scores ahead of that were the Pentax 645Z (101) and the Hasselblad X1D-50c (102). So Pentax is squeezing their top end camera, though presumably people are using the 645 for other reasons (lenses they own, for one thing). Since the Sony A7R II and share the same sensor, a look at a comparison between the two may be enlightening. As with all upgrades in MP, one MAY have to consider their image editing platform when accessing the FULL cost of upgrading. It will be interesting to see what the original K-1 sells for on the used market, once the Mk II is shipping and more come on the market. On Thu, Feb 8, 2018 at 1:57 PM, P. J.
