It must be spring

Mombird is back in her nest and a bunch of plants are blooming.

I'm a big fan of the purple potato vines:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/26638607057/in/album-72157693949536931/

I've got a couple of vines that I don't think have bloomed before. I
don't even know what this one is:

The rose vines are blooming for the first time and while the flowers are
very small, they are still quite pretty, and smell rather sweet:

C as always appreciated.

Computer restoration pain

2018-04-16 Thread Rick Womer
So I have my nifty new Mac Mini here with its internal SSD; and a new external
HDD to be my primary external drive; and a couple of drives for backups.

LR and the current catalog are on the internal drive, and the photos are on the
external drive (retrieved from a backup).

The photos are in hierarchical folders: Year / Month / Shoot (for example, 2016
/ 2016-10 / Vancouver). They’re organized that way on the new external drive.

The problems are two (probably related):

First, I can only seem to link the catalog with the photos folder-by-folder,
using the lowest folders in the hierarchy. There are hundreds of such folders.
In a half-hour of work I managed to link about 500 of my 45,000 photos.

Second, I can’t get the hierarchical display of folders to display in the left
panels.

There’s GOT to be a better way… I hope!

Any help appreciated.

Accidental Ennoblement.

2018-04-16 Thread P. J. Alling

All my friends keep giving me their old unwanted photography equipment.

Usually this is pretty awful stuff, old Sigma Zooms, inoperative Pentax
film cameras, a Mamya/Secore  indescribable third party items for the
Leica system, that I'm sure someone could used if only I knew the proper
term for them.  Every once in a while I get something that's almost
useful, it's kind of depressing actually.

Well today I actually got what might be a Gem.  An Olympus OM-2, the
camera itself is in pretty nice condition, probably because the 50mm
lens took a serious impact and almost sacrificed itself entirely.  I've
got to find a couple of S76 batteries to check out the shutter.

I managed to get out on mine yesterday, a circuit round some of the posher

start building up some fitness ready for my July trip to France.

PESO 2018 - 027 - GDG

A busy not-busy day on Sunday. I fitted one of the comfortable Sportour Garda
GelFlow saddles like I've had on Sumo to the new Fatboy and did some final trim
adjustments to the new Shimano XT handlebar controls. Then went off on a 16
mile ride.

Dang, that Fatboy works well now! All the upgrades are in and properly tuned.
It has the right gearing range, the new Shimano XT shifter and derailleur work
brilliantly, and the Slate 4T brakes are fantastic. The seat is ultra
comfortable, and the new bell rings sweetly. Absolutely delighted with the
whole bicycle ...

Here I am about midway through the ride on Guadalupe River Trail, on the
section under the various highway overpasses right near Adobe headquarters in
downtown San Jose:
