G'day all

Biggest gallery for some time - well done all!

You will probably note that there is one image taken with a Ricoh. I know the
rules/guidelines state that submissions must be taken with either a Pentax body
or lens but, given that Ricoh owns Pentax and could possibly be regarded as the
saviour of Pentax, I've let this one through (great image, by the way!).

17 submissions to enjoy

View the November gallery here:

http://pug.komkon.org/

(you may need to refresh your browser if you see the previous gallery there).

Note: The automated submission process usually works well but it's not
infallible. So, if you made a submission and you don't see it in the gallery,
let me know.

Next up: 'Waterbirds'.

Themes for 2021 coming soon!

Re: PESO It's Junco Day

2020-11-05 Thread Paul Stenquist
Ha! I like Steady Stenquist, especially since I sometimes topple over these
days. I was somewhat frustrated today by the limits a tripod imposed on my
range when seated. So I took the camera off the tripod and bumped the shutter
speed up to 1000th (from 1/640th) and turned on shake reduction. I took the
stout tripod foot off, but that rig was still damn heavy for an arthritic
geezer. But it was fun. I’ll do it again.

A few years ago Michael Gaither did a show with my friend Michelle and really

outdoor socially distanced show at a local winery last Friday. The one

capitalize on the very nice wine that was available.

There was a bougainvillea off to the side of the stage that ended up making a
very nice backdrop:

Ah, thanks. Does that mean that if I put some seed up higher I’d get more than

I was scattering seeds on the ground from a combination of laziness and it

PESOs junco and Michael

2020-11-05 Thread Larry Colen
A few days back I saw 9 juncos in my side yard, where I scatter seed. A couple
of them let me get within 10 feet of them and I was able to get some decent
shots.

A few years ago Michael Gaither did a show with my friend Michelle and really
liked some of the photos I got of him. He asked me to photograph him at an
outdoor socially distanced show at a local winery last Friday. The one
downside was that I didn’t have a designated driver so I couldn’t really
capitalize on the very nice wine that was available.

There was a bougainvillea off to the side of the stage that ended up making a
very nice backdrop:

Every venue has a few interesting pitfalls that are an opportunity for
education. This one was lit by strings of lights, LEDs that it turns out
flicker pretty strongly at, I’d guess 120 Hz. If you get the shutter speed
wrong, bands of light and dark. If you use auto exposure, and it reads the
exposure at the wrong part of the cycle, the whole thing is way over or way
under exposed. If I go back, I’ll definitely bring some of my stage lights.

He had Lauren Wahl come along to do a short set with her band, and she joined
him on stage for quite a few songs. In addition to having a wonderful voice,
she’s one of those people who seems to get along real well with cameras.

Thanks folks. I was woken up about 03:00am this morning by a pair
singing a duet in the bright moonlight!

Re: PESO - Breezy Leaves

2020-11-05 Thread Rick Womer
Thanks, Toine and Ann!

Ann, the view was restricted by utility wires below, a reflective building to
the left, distracting branches to the right and bright sky above, all viewed
through a narrow rowhouse window. I tried several crops, and finally settled on
this 8x10 horizontal one.

Toine, I was using a tripod, but not a remote control (the battery needs
replacing). I shot over 50 images, varying the SS, aperture, and ISO, and
trying to synchronize with the gusts. Only 5 made it into the “potential
keeper” category.

Cheers,

Rick

Yes it's a difficult image. It doesn't work at small sizes. Bigger is better.

Nice and swirly. If the cam was on a tripod, stacking could be a option.
