Re: September PUG is up - Again....

2022-09-08 Thread Rick Womer
I looked it up in the Oxford English Dictionary (the one that comes with a
magnifying glass and is still massive).

The first definition of a jetty is a stone structure that marks or protects the
entrance to a harbor. Another is a stone structure projecting from a wharf.

The last definition boils down to “a pier.”

Happy to share our OED with anyone who stops by!

According to Wikipedia:

Yeah, it's just that if two drives got corrupted at the same time, I'd
wonder about the computer they're attached to.

WHY did the drives get corrupted? Could the computer be doing something
that's going to corrupt other drives?

Even if it was one drive went bad several months ago and the other went
bad this week, I'd still want to know the computer wasn't at fault.

Can the computer find the files? Not using Lightroom; just the computer itself?

Can you do the Backblaze backup using a different external drive?

I may be teaching Grandma to suck eggs, but those are some simple diagnostic
steps that can help you decide if the problem is with Lightroom, Backblaze,
your external drives or your computer itself.

FWIW, here on my Windoze PC I can view DNG files using Irfanview and FastStone
Image Viewer, so if I suspected a bad card, I could check it out on this different
computer (I have a separate computer I built for photography & editing).

I think both of those programs are available for Apple/Mac, so if you need a
way to check whether the images are still on the card ...

I ejected the card, but did not erase it. Before I went down to prepare and eat

purpose; and when that was complete I launched a Backblaze backup.
I worked on the photos in LR after dinner, and worked up 9 of them to be posted

This evening, I went to post the PESOs. Lightroom now has a little box with an

I watched until they were complete) are not visible either on my backup drive

I’ve been using the same system since 2005, with no previous problems; and now

I didn't even know about that one. What I remember affected manual focus

But it may have been more or less the same problem, an extra part that

Well, two strange things really.

First is an on-topic message from me.

Second is an oddity with a Pentax-M 120mm f2.8 lens that I have.

If anyone here has one of these, could you please compare the back of it with
your other M lenses?

I have been doing some informal ‘shoot outs’ with my Pentax-M lenses and my
Leica lenses, and will put them online if anyone is interested. Anyway, I have
been using my Leica M10 monochrome body for all the shots, and a Novoflex
adapter for the Pentax lenses, without any problems.

Except that the 120mm lens doesn’t fit the adapter.

On closer inspection, the bit at the back (sorry for the technical jargon) of
the 120mm lens where the aperture levers are is significantly different from
the other lenses. The photos at this link show you. The 120mm is on the left;
the other lens is a 135mm, which is about the same size.

(A link to some pictures should go here, but the server keeps rejecting my
emails with links. I’ll try to find another way of showing the pictures).

On the 135mm and other lenses there are some concentric grooves at the back,
and it is stepped down. The 120mm is plain, and doesn’t have the step.

On the adapter there is a flange which goes down into the dropped part of the
step when you put a lens on, and of course it can’t do this on the plain back
end of the 120mm, so the adapter won’t go on the lens.

The lens fits my Pentax MX fine, as well as a number of other MXes I’ve been
evaluating with a view to buying a new one. As far as I know it doesn’t affect
anything when shooting. However, I need to test this lens specifically as any
problems it causes may have become mixed up with problems which have caused me
to reject other cameras.

It’s possible that someone has had the lens altered for some reason, although
it is otherwise mint-, but it looks almost like a KF mount.

Anybody else have one like this?

Thanks,
Bob
