Re: Problems reading SD cards
Since Win7 was working for you have you considered backing everything up and re-installing Win7? If all you use that computer for is photo processing there shouldn't be a lot of software to re-install. OTOH, if you have a computer running (or able to run) Win10, Win10 has a compatibility mode that you can activate that allows you to run aged games and software. -p On 2/21/2024 6:54 PM, John Sessoms wrote: I spent today doing some maintenance on my photography - making sure I have all of my images copied off of the memory cards onto the computer & batch renaming by Camera Type & Sequence Number ... so that IMGP5432 from the K-2 becomes K3-05432 Part of the reason for this is the default for Pentax Raw files is "IMGP" and a couple of my cameras have rolled over past and the K-1 numbering was reset when I had to send it in for repair after I fell & yanked the screen off the back. So it's K10D-1, K20D-0, K-3-0 & K-1-1 ... I pretty much kept up with it WHILE I was downloading images from the camera up until Covid (when I got lazy and sometimes wouldn't download the images for months after I took them) ANYWAY - The K-3 has been giving me fits downloading images today. Adobe Bridge "get media" seems to fail after pulling down about 8 images. I'm having the same problem directly copying from the card to the computer - 8 images & an error. When the error comes Windoze says the DCIM folder is empty & can't even see the card to eject it. If I just pull the card reader out & plug it in again the sub-folders are still there in DCIM and I can go into the sub-folder and copy images manually ... but if I select more than 8 at a time it's going to have the same error copying. If I just select 8 images they seem to copy fine and then I can select 8 more and they'll copy, but rarely works for a third batch of 8. Repeat remove & reinsert & select the next 8 ... I only had the problem with the K-3 cards - 2-32GB Sandisk Extreme SDHC and 1-32GB Sandisk Ultra SDXC. I'm pretty sure I only lost a single image to corruption. Sucks, but at least it's not worse. I copied all the images over to my file server. I don't know if it's the camera, the cards, the card reader or the computer. I hope it's not the computer because it's Windows 7 & Photoshop CS6 Extended (which I don't think will run on Windoze 10 & Windoze 10 definitely would not install on this computer (I shall not repeat my previous rant about the attempt to install Windows 10 ...) I'll shut the Photoshop computer down tomorrow, open it up & give it a good cleaning inside & see where we go from here. -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Thumb drive fart under pressure
For the most compatibility across operating systems FAT32 file system is your best bet. It does have a couple limitations - a max file size 4 GB and a max partition size of 8TB. These limitations are not usually a problem with a flash drive unless you're trying to save something like a movie. FAT16 is so old it's pretty much dead in the water and NTFS, standard for Windows machines, can be both read and write to Windows, but read only for MACs. EX FAT eliminates the file size and partition size limitations of FAT32 but is somewhat less compatible machine/system-wise. Assuming you don't have any files larger than 4GB, if you have two flash drives, format one to FAT32 and the other to EX-FAT. Put your files on both of them and see which works in the class machines. -p On 1/30/2024 6:57 PM, Rick Womer wrote: I’m taking a photography course at the Fleisher Art Memorial here in Philly. Thanks to all for looking, liking and commenting on my "jetty". Of all the definitions I found, the most popular was an object extending into the water to create a harbor. Re: PESO: Пасха
Lovely old edifice, Dan. Years ago I shot a Russian Orthodox wedding and was impressed with the amount of symbolism in the ceremony - more than I encountered in the Catholic or Protestant weddings I have done. And yet, I was surprised with how liberal that particular priest was. I always checked with the officiant several days before a wedding to ask about their particular photographer's rules, as many had limitations about where you could go during the ceremony. For this wedding the priest said I could shoot from anywhere as long as I didn't climb up on the altar behind him. -p On 4/23/2022 5:08 PM, Daniel J. Matyola wrote: Христос Воскрес! My heritage is Eastern European, but not Russian or Ukrainian. I was not raised in the Orthocox faith, but attended many church services and cultural celebrations with my father's family when I was younger, including midnight masses on Orthodox Christmas and Orthodox Easter. They are still a part of my identity. Tragically, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus' has declared Putin's war on Ukraine a holy war, despite the religious affinity and the fact that there are 1200 Russian Orthodox parishes in Ukraine in addition to the many Ukrainian Orthodox churches and cathedrals. Mariupol', which has been leveled by Russian artillery, was inhabited mostly by ethnic Russians, the people Putin claims his invasion is to protect. For the occasion, I resurrected the below old image of my grandparents' church, the Holy Ghost Orthodox Church in Manville, NJ. It doesn’t matter how sharp the lens is if I can’t use it to take the photo I’m trying for. I bought it when I bought my K-1, because to me the main technical advantage of the K-1 was faster lenses at wider angle of view than I could get with an APS body. The map function is working again, as is facial recognition, and they implemented the “re-scan for faces” feature that people were asking for. The new feature is is very powerful, and even more poorly documented is the new mask feature. They’ve replaced adjustment brushes, radial adjustments and graded filters with a whole new way of masking, adding a “subject mask”. You take these various masks and you can duplicate them, invert them, add them together and subtract one from another. My first attempt at doing something ambitious with it was going from this https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/51876634457/in/album-72177720296633990/ to this https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/51878564356/in/album-72177720296633990/ I sure don’t have it mastered, in my hands it’s more like a poorly balanced cudgel than a scalpel, but it does have a lot of potential. OT A rant and an offer...
My 10 year old R2000 printer finally gave up the ghost and I'm unable to get the heads clean enough to make a decent print. Timing wasn't so bad, as I've been lusting after a P700 and Epson finally offered a rebate that made the cost more bearable. B did their job...the printer was ordered on Aug 24 and shipped via FedEx on Aug 25, with expected delivery on Aug 27. By the 27th the tracking showed it in transit in Chicago with a new delivery date of Aug 28. FedEx tracking continued to show it in transit in Chicago for the next *five* days; why they had it roaming around the city of Chicago for that length of time I have no idea. I was finally able to contact a real person at FedEx on Aug 31 to investigate and also asked B to intervene as the shipper. The printer finally arrived this afternoon by courier. Needless to say, FedEx shipping and delivery performance was less than stellar. So...is anyone on the list printing with an R2000? I have some new cartridges - these are the 159 series - that someone can have for the cost of shipping. If no one on the list is interested, I'll put them up on ebay or as a last resort they're worth $2 each to me if I recycle them. Since they're new I'd prefer that someone could make use of them. Here's what I have: Magenta - 1 Cyan - 1 Matte Black - 3 Photo Black - 1 Gloss Optimizer - 2 -p -- Paul Sorenson Studio1941 Sooner or later "different" scares people. -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

That package was quickly retuned to them, they sent a replacement LX. But still, how careless can you get! Fast forward to today. I received the K-3. A generous wrapping of bubble wrap around the interior package. And what a package! The camera body (in its own plastic bag) along with the charger, charger electrical cord and battery each in their own plastic bags and then bundled together, all of this inside a padded zippered case. The happy thing is that it works with standard paper development chemistry and processing techniques. Contrast - The best I can answer is "I don't know." I've never used this paper before so have no experience with it in a darkroom situation using standard tray development. I estimated sensitivity at ISO 6, made exposures at ISO 6 and ISO 3 as a test. My paper developer was so far out of date (which I didn't know until I started mixing it) that I felt the results were going to fall way off the curve ... I mixed it up at 1:31 dilution and gave the paper 12 minutes of development time (standard would be 1:9 or 1:14 @ ~2 minutes). The resulting paper image was very, very flat, with the ISO 3 images showing more useable tonal scale. I could probably have gone to ISO 1.5 and 20 minutes processing time with that defective soup. With the Hasselblad's 907x/CFVII 50c sensor's great tonal depth, I was able to get a pretty decent range out of the originals that matched what I had in mind when making the exposures, but it was a bit more work than my usual film captures. I need to experiment with the paper some more. The simple thing to do would be to get a cheap 4x5in field camera and some film holders, that would save a huge amount of time in cutting down the paper sheets and fitting into the fussy Mamiya Press 23 film holders. :) G -- Paul Sorenson Studio1941 Sooner or later "different" scares people. -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Gallery Creation software recommendations
John - I think jAlbum is probably hands down the best gallery software available for a reasonable price. It comes in two flavors - Standard and Pro - with the difference being the Pro allows you to use it for sales and have a shopping cart. Otherwise, the features are the same. There is a wide variety of skins available or you can customize your own and, unlike some others, you can have your own site rather than uploading to the "company" site. The Standard is $49 and includes a year of updates. After a year the software is still yours to use but you get no further updates without an annual purchase. https://jalbum.net/en/software/features -p On 6/19/2021 1:03 AM, John Francis wrote: A friend of mine has recently provided me with space on one of his machines where I can, amongst other things, host a photo gallery. Re: Pentax drone photography?
Correct. In the US if a drone is used for recreational purposes and weighs over 250 grams (.55 lb) it must be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). If a drone is used for commercial purposes it must be registered regardless of weight. The cost for either is 5 USD for 3 years. In addition, commercial operations require you to be a licensed drone pilot so if you take photos or videos with your drone and sell them, you're supposed to be licensed. The FAA takes a broad view on what is considered commercial. It might be something as innocuous as posting drone photos or videos on a blog that gets a little income from sharing ads. Obviously they're not going to be scrubbing through blogs and web sites looking for violations but there are folks who don't like drones who complain and then the FAA will look into it.
