Re: PESOs (3) - Acropolis
Not as much a shopping opportunity as an eating and drinking one. The place is worth a trip! I wish I had been able to stay longer—I only had 1 1/2 days adjacent to a conference. Re: PESOs (3) - Acropolis
Thanks, Dan and Alan. A couple of colleagues who had been to Athens before had warned me about the decay, dirt, and graffiti. We were very pleasantly surprised—the place has been cleaned up remarkably in the last few years. Rick http://photo.net/photos/RickW > On Jun 14, 2017, at 9:44 AM, Daniel J. Re: PESOs (3) - Acropolis
Of course, the ancient Greeks painted most of the buildings and statues in what today would be considered garish colors. Re: PESOs (3) - Acropolis
Yes, I agree. Those streets seem very "un-city". I saw it briefly (the Acropolis, that is), from the Airport during a late night stopover. They didn't have floodlights in ancient Greek times but it must have looked quite impressive from below on a bright moonlit night. Alan C -Original Message- From: Daniel J. The acropolis is one of the true gems of Western civilization, and you have portrayed it quite well. Lovely images, Rick. The acropolis is one of the true gems of Western civilization, and you have portrayed it quite well. The Plaka, at the base of the Acropolis, is a charming neighborhood, much more enjoyable than the modern sections of Athens, which are so beset by graffiti and urban decay.
