The K-3 II is already discontinued. This should be a direct replacement. I wouldn't worry too much about the naming conventions. Pentax is weird. Just an off tangent thought, but when I was in the Army, "KP" meant "Kitchen Police" [in this context "police" means "clean up"] ... So maybe "KP" means it's a camera for hipster foodies to instagram with?
