grumpy because the wife is late getting out of work and we're supposed to go
out for dinner.
Get her a second job. This should both improve her timekeeping and
provide you with the money for essential purchases!!!
A further benefit will be to your self esteem

Youse guys often talk about obsolescence.
I'm running into a problem with my computer more often these days. Some of
you might have older computers than I have so you should just quit reading
now because I'll sound like I'm whining for nothing.
It seems the upgrade parts, being so far out of
lol

You might check into Freecycle and its equivalents. I recently found
new home for most of my excess computer bits through lists like that
locally.

I think I threw two of them out a couple of months ago, (after all who
would want such ancient tech. couldn't even justify ebay).

Hmm. I was just at the Goodwill computer shop today, donating a couple
of old laptops. That's just the kind of thing they might have. I'll see
if I can get back there next week. I can also check at school in a
couple of weeks.
Buying a new Socket AM2 MB with 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a low-end Athlon
64 and a good PCI-E Video card will cost you less than a near-mythical
decent PCI video card. Especially if that's PC3200 RDRAM rather than
DDR SDRAM. PCI is long-dead as a video interface as it doesn't provide
enough bandwidth
Actually I saw one at the local Wal-Mart the other day. $78.
PCI video cards are not really off the market quite yet. I
keep thinking I ought to pick one up for trouble shooting.

You can buy a nice, up to date PC for a few hundred bucks. At some point, it's
smarter to bite the bullet and upgrade.

If I generally had a few hundred bucks to replace stuff that actually mostly
works, this whine/rant wouldn't exist.
