My inner 12 year old really wants to make a bunch of juvenile jokes about wet 
beaver, fortunately I'm too mature to pass them on.

PESO: Woodpecker

So I finally got out of the house to make some photographs. I made good 
use of the bag for the 600/4 I received as a gift from someone here on 
the list. It works a treat.


Went down to Shelley Lake in Raleigh to photograph the eagles' nest. 
While I was down there waiting for something to happen, this guy showed up:

I'm no bird expert, but this guy eats something he finds on tree 
branches. Is he some kind of woodpecker? He's not like most of the 
other woodpeckers I've seen around here. Shot with the *istD, A400/5.6, 
and the Sigma DG500 Super set on high speed synch, f5.6 @ 1/1000th.

Yes, a nuthatch.  Around here they can be called creepers,
and be pretty friendly compared to the woodpeckers who are shy.
Look carefully as they can be tough to spot and hop away rather than fly.
