John, my post may have ended up in your spam box as not coming from a

The list software may have ideas of its own.

When I was subscribed to the list using my Earthlink email address I'd
regularly get blocked by the SPAM Blacklist software y'all subscribed to.

Some "business" customer of Earthlink would SPAM & the server node would
get blacklisted ... then MY posts would get rejected if my outgoing mail
happened to hit the same server node.

Earthlink's "technical support" /s couldn't do anything about it.

In SA with up to 8 hours Load Shedding per day & subsequent switch on
surges, the insurance claims have skyrocketed. Mostly TV's, Fridges &
Aircons. The insurance companies have "eliminated" their risk by
insisting on a surge protector fitted to the DB by a certified
electrician. Too expensive for most of us so we now have individual
surge plugs on sensitive appliances.

Then I'll be able to transfer a bunch of files, reformat the external

Not horrendously expensive here, as long as your consumer unit (fusebox) has
room for it. Cartridge types (a base that fits the rail in the unit with a
replaceable active part) vary from about £30 to £150. No more than an hour's
work for the sparky to fit it. Using surge protector plugs on everything would
easily cost us that.

Rick, we have a whole-house surge protector, it is wired in through the main

Nevertheless, for a very long period I couldn't subscribe and then gave
up trying.  As I recall the "server/app" didn't particularly care for
"att.net" at the time, but it may have been something else.  Nothing
personal intended.   Enjoy the Holiday Season.

Rick, have you spoken to your power provider? I mean, we're aware of

this kind of event is not normal.

So, in the midst of other activities, I've been chipping away at the

aren't in daily use) so that I can shift my files off the damaged drives

Then I'll be able to transfer a bunch of files, reformat the external

Stay tuned.

Only about 4-5 members get dumped in SPAM, including myself. Have tired all
ways of whitelisting and suchlike but no luck. It's clearly something outside
my control. I suspect it might be because the addresses have been spoofed at
some time. I know mine has because I used to get quite a few offers for blue
pills from myself.

thanks larry. the print scanner reply and the original test 1 made it through
here too, finally. huge delay on the print scanner reply for me. And PDML mail
from me and other people always goes into my Junk Mail folder for some reason.
No idea why.

Fine, be that way. :)
I honestly couldn't see enough difference to see a difference. I've done
some awesome noise reduction with Denoise, but they were horribly noisey
images to begin with.

That’s right up there with mistaking the “photo” portion of the url with the
“album” portion of the url, and not looking at the actual filename.

LR denoise test (OT)

2023-05-29 Thread Larry Colen
Off topic because this was taken with the u4/3. I was almost home from a bike
ride yesterday and saw a hawk flying across the road with a squirrel.

I made all sorts of rookie mistakes which caused me to lose what would have
been the best photos. I didn’t change the ISO from base (200) which I had been
using for the sunny landscape. I also didn’t set the focus to single point, so
it Looked like it was selecting the bird when it was selecting the leaves
behind the bird. Anyways,

here is the base shot:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/52930880399/in/album-72177720308610941/

here it is with LR denoise:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/52933253792/in/album-72177720308610941/

I would say that for this shot, the difference is noticeable, but not
miraculous.

Since Ann will likely want to look at the rest of the album:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/albums/72177720308610941
I included several “blown” frames of another bird harassing the hawk.
Since I hadn’t been very good about changing from the tank top to a T-shirt
when I should of, it turned out that the hawk wasn’t the only one who was red
shouldered.

And while I’m off topic, the rest of the photos from the ride, some showing my
new to me bike, a humming bird on a wire, and some burros. Also a strange
bright blue ball which I think must be some rotting foam ball, but which almost
looks like some weird fungus.

Looks like you may be having a problem where you can't see your own
posts, which prompts you to hit send again.

In the past, I dealt with that by having a second email account that
receives PDML posts.

If I can't see my own post and don't get an outright error message
saying my post was rejected, I check the other account to see if it has
received what I sent.

Re: test 2

Hotmail is Outlook. It wasn’t even Microsoft when I got my hotmail email
address in 1995, it was for cool and hip travellers to use E:mail in
’inter-net’ cafés in obscure countries where electricity was provided once a
week by a donkey going round and round in circles.

Anyway, for the sake of simplicity I have just set up an iCloud alias, with
which I have just subscribed, and I will shortly be unsubscribing my
pdm...@hotmail.com address and consigning it to the dustbin of history.

And now that we’ve left the EU we don’t even have the donkey anymore, we had to
give it back.

Re:

Thanks to all who commented.

I can't really take credit for the colours or the sharpness - Olympus
(and whoever makes the sensor) deserve most of the praise for that.

My contribution was deciding where to point the camera, and picking
a small enough aperture to get at least some amount of depth of field
on the flower close-ups - the camera took care of the rest.

It's a learning experience for me - switching to u4/3 from the APS-C
sensor of the K5 (and the different aspect ratio of the two systems)
is interesting (and occasionally challenging), but definitely fun.

Things I have learned so far:

o I still prefer a viewfinder, but having a rear screen is good.
Having one than can be flipped out, rotated, etc. is even better.

o The Olympus shutter release is hair-trigger sensitive!

o The auto-focus is lightning fast (and accurate). That's good,
because having a smaller sensor affects the depth of field.

I've not as yet got anywhere near pushing the new camera to its limits;
it supposedly offers significantly better Image Stabilisation (SR),
and has an AI-based focus tracking mode that understands motorsports.
But at the moment I'm concentrating on getting to know where all the
controls are (there are buttons all over the body, and almost all of
them can be re-programmed to do something other than their default).
I've got used to the Pentax control layout - I haven't owned any other
brand of SLR since I purchased my Spotmatic II (50 years ago!)
