It's funny, I saw the birds on the cranes and was immediately taken with

didn't seem quite as nice as I remembered, but maybe I was wrong, a
couple of people have commented on that shot, also another friend not on

I saw it exactly as you described. I take my Panos the same manner - no
tripod. I meant how to post it on Flickr like you did (size options?).

Thanks Alan. I didn't do it "right" with the proper nodal tripod mount,
I just took a series of shots, with a fair bit of overlap, and used the
lightroom "panorama" function (ctrl-m).

I was pleasantly surprised by how it turned out. I just did it on a whim
because the interesting foreground was way over to the left and the
interesting background was way over to the right.

Absolutely true!  Mt Washington is hands down winner for wintery

Today's photo technology is pretty amazing. That was also with the "kit
lens" too, the 28-105. At that distance, it's resolving the individual
bars on the fence.

I took the liberty of clicking on all the images on the "180106 Santa Cruz"
page, and there are some very good ones there. My favorite is the one with
the two metal cranes covered with birds. The birds are easier to see in
the image with the single crane, but I like the balance and composition of
the double crane shot. I also liked "Typhoon."

Thanks Dan.

Good so see people (more or less) in the water. No chance of that on the
east coast today, except for the Polar Bear nuts.

We've had a bit of a rough year here in California, at least the winter
is going easy on us, so far. Someone pointed out that Friday marked the
36th anniversary of the '82 storm here. There's still a little memorial
a couple miles from here that a grandmother set up to her grandkids
killed in the Love Creek mudslide.

By Wednesday, however, I shall be in Maui. Current water temp at the
surface is 77 F, with afternoon air temps in the low 80s.

Maybe then you'll have some sympathy for me almost needing to put on a
long sleeved shirt in the afternoon.

A break in the weather

2018-01-07 Thread Larry Colen
Today was a short break in the chilly wet weather and I got a few shots
down in Santa Cruz this afternoon

A kid and his father (?) on a run/walk down the beach:

A seagull finally had enough of being pestered by a lass
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/24684492297/in/album-72157689148828412/

A couple of phone calls due to a moment of human drama
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/2777509/in/album-72157689148828412/

I also got silly and posted a full resolution panorama
