narrower field of view of the background, making it easy to avoid 
background ugliness.

Agree with Ken - - suggest lightening your son's face a bit , cropping 
that little strip of dark on the right
and maybe darkening the pyramid? Blurring background a bit? Perhaps this 
would work better in

black and white
