If you had the room and the lens, a longer focal length would give you a less in focus background? I use a 300 a lot in close focus situations and get a really nice OOF background. Agree with Ken - - suggest lightening your son's face a bit , cropping that little strip of dark on the right and maybe darkening the pyramid? Blurring background a bit?
