Larry lives about 25 miles south of me, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I'm in Santa Clara, at the base of the SF Bay Peninsula, just over the border from the city of San Jose. Chico and Paradise are roughly 200 miles north of me, up and past the Sacramento River Valley. The smoke from these fires has been chokingly thick at times here in the South Bay neighborhood nonetheless for the past two days.
