Thanks for the reply. However, we were finally able to nail this down as
definitely not being PowerDNS' issue.
The server(s) in question are FreeBSD using the pf firewall. Both servers
are running FreeBSD 8.1, and have nearly identical rules. I copied over
the firewall config from the worki
Wait, found that this is the same problem as in thread "DNS resolution
problem with pdns-recursor-3.3"
I am sorry, but I think this has been a wild goose chase regarding a
bug in the recursor. The existing 3.3 version works just fine with
resolving cdn4.digitalconcerthall.com from a system ou
Ok here's the scenario. We've done a lot of testing and we've discovered
this weird, weird bug:
Requirements:
- pdns recursor, confirmed with version 3.3
- domain we're looking up: ncura.omnicms.com
Test with host from my server to get an idea of what we're working with:
mwi1% host ncura.omn
Hi guys,
I'm looking for some more precise logging options than what seems to be
available. When we ran BIND recursors we used to leave query logging
enabled which would allow us to view every lookup that was performed, but
without the insane verbosity of pdns' trace output. We also had the
Thanks Bert. I've also noticed lately that if I restart the database
underneath PDNS it doesn't seem to like that very much. I usually end up
restarting PDNS before waiting too long to see if it comes back to life
and re-establishes the database connection. Is this known/wanted behavior?

Hi guys,
Is there any connection pooling work done by PowerDNS that would negate
any possible performance benefits of pgbouncer?
Thanks,

Does anyone here have experience running sqlite as their backend for
PowerDNS?
Lately I've been prodded to get a timeline setup to revamp our current DNS
architecture and implement what I've been envisoning. Unfortunately we
have DNS servers on the same machines as public facing webservers.
In BIND this would be setting up different "views", but I haven't seen
that available in PowerDNS yet. Anyone have comments on whether or not
this is coming or just not in the roadmap?

Mark

Hi guys,
The docs say that pdns is supposed to use the daemon facility as its
default logging facility for syslog. However, this doesn't seem to be the
case. On my FreeBSD box my syslog.conf looks like this:
*.err;kern.warning;auth.notice;mail.crit/dev/console
*.notice;auth
OK, well I have a small personal DNS infrastructure for some friends of
mine and myself and I wanted to use PowerDNS going forward. I have a few
questions though because I've never found clear information on this:
The servers are not the same arch; one is 32bit the other is 64bit. I want

I don't know what other people think about this, but I was planning for
our deployment to have a pdns server with a MySQL backend that would be
private (nobody can query it directly) and then have our other DNS servers
that receive updates from it use a file backend because it's less

Hi all,
My company is highly interested in migrating from BIND to powerdns. We
would love to have a database backend and integrate DNS changes into our
customer facing portal, but we have one requirement that cannot be ignored.
We are looking for someone who can implement the "symlink" feat

I'm not familiar with many DNS servers with database backends, but I
definitely know of none that actually have serials. Serials would be
