Hello,
I'm looking for any published information for the performance
characteristics of MySQL vs. PostgreSQL as a PDNS backend. Granted
there are unlimited tuning options for the backends - I'm just looking
for a good starting point.
Responses off list would be fine.
Thanks,
Max
Hello,
I have a set of pdns slaves running with the bind backend. When adding
new zones to the configuration file we are running pdns_control
rediscover to reload the zones:
# pdns_control rediscover
Sep 15 00:37:27 ns01 pdns[38478]: [bindbackend] error at Wed Sep 15

Hello,
I have been evaluating alternate DNS topologies to our current
configuration. Ideally I would prefer an architecture where the master
is hidden, and that the public slaves can run independent without
dependance on an external process (i.e. mysql).
Initially I was under the impression that
I recently ran a series of dns load tests against various dns servers
and have been greatly surprised by the results
(http://www.clarksys.com/2007/11/20/dns_load_testing_results/) - in
this test PDNS was slightly faster than TinyDNS and half as fast as
BIND. Because the query set was highly
Bert,
I'll try those settings when I run through the next series of load tests.
Having said all this - actual powerdns performance problems are very rare in
the real world, and the million domain+ installations keep chugging along
nicely.
We have approximately 7k domains in our system right
Hi all,
Is it possible to configure powerdns to connect to two mysql servers at the
same time for redundancy? If the first db is unavailable I would like to
query the second.
Thanks,

Hi Max,
this might work the same way like answered to my
.
The opendbx backend has built-in fail-over capabilities and is able to use
two
or more MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc. server for redundancy.

Hi all,
