Re: [Pdns-users] pdns recursor - unthreaded vs threaded operation
Hi Bert, are you planning to run multiple Lua sessions per thread in the future (in PowerDNS Recursor)? If yes, do you think it will be possible to have a switch for this feature in recursor.conf? I need to make a decision for my company about the use of PowerDNS Recursor in a project and everything depends on the possibility of having one single lua session per thread. Thanks a lot for your support. For now, and for this version of the PowerDNS Recursor, if you set threads to 1, you will really only get 1 simultaneous Lua session. However, this is not true in other parts of PowerDNS. In the authoritative server if you set 'distributor-threads=1' you might still get several parallel database connections. If you are going to do synchronous SQL updates from Lua, do realize that these typically cost up to a millisecond including latency. This means that your Resolver will peak at 1000 qps. how deep is the impact on performances changing the number of threads from 2 (default setting) to just 1? are there other sensible settings that I could adjust to better suit my needs? You might want to look at other ways of doing statistics if you truly want high performance. PowerDNS right now does not offer a good interface for very rapid query logging, but perhaps you could use a textfile from Lua. Good luck! [Pdns-users] PowerDNS part of major DNSSEC deployment in Sweden
Hi everybody, We are very proud to be able to report that PowerDNS is now powering over 165000 DNSSEC zones in Sweden. The official press release is here: http://www.binero.se/omoss/pressinformation/binero-secures-one-in-ten-swedish-domains-against-phishing (and yes, the title is not quite correct). Binero of Sweden, together with Atomia, have signed more than 10% of all Swedish domain names using PowerDNS, which also means that 97+% of all Swedish DNSSEC domains (with a DS in .se) are now powered by PowerDNS! More technical details can be found at: https://lists.dns-oarc.net/pipermail/dns-operations/2012-January/007934.html The impressive graphs reflecting this process can be found on: https://www.iis.se/en/domaner/statistik/tillvaxt?chart=per-type (scroll down to 'DNSSEC signed domains') In the course of the migration Atomia and Binero have fixed or found several PowerDNS bugs, and we are grateful for their trust in PowerDNS and the contributions they have made. This giant deployment means that PowerDNSSEC is now truly ready for prime time. The bugs that have been found however mean that other large deployments might want to wait for the upcoming 3.1 release, or use snapshot 20111215.2321 (available from http://powerdnssec.org). For more information about this migration, or of you want to know more about how to attempt large scale DNSSEC operations, please feel free to contact us on powerdns.supp...@netherlabs.nl and we will be glad to help!
