It seems to me that past increases in productivity have been accompanied by decreases in working hours, hence the employment slack from innovation has never been taken up completely through the creation of new jobs. It may be that this applies to the switch from agriculture to industry as well. I'd be interested in hearing from anybody who might have the historical stats to back this up. Or am I wrong?
