Dear Pen-lers, Perhaps some of you have been following the on-and-off news story about the Miss World pageant being held in Bangalore, India (this coming Sat.) There has been a vigorous outcry against the event by an unsual collection of political and other groups - feminists, farmers, nationalists, Hinduists, an assortment of populist and other social organizations. One person has already committed suicide in protest of the event by setting himself on fire and 500 more have threatened to self-immolate if the event is actually held. On being interviewed by ABC news, the Indian beauty contestant in the pageant opined that she did not understand what the hullabaloo was about because the event, afterall, would attract the attention of world and "bring in lost of foreign investment."
