Title: FW: [PEN-L:34785] NYC 2/15

meanwhile... I arrived in NYC to go to the toy fair on a red-eye, went to the hotel where my family was staying and slept for quite awhile, missing the demo. (I am told, though, that the area around the hotel -- the Waldorf-Astoria -- was totally filled with people, filling the sky with a veritable joyful noise.) After the toy convention party and after further sleep, we flew home. The most I did to get out of the hotel was to go to Starf*cks this morning to get some caffeine for the missus 'n me.

The toy event was interesting (and fattening). The folks who actually develop toys seemed okay, seeming to love toys and kids,* while the retailers (including Toys 'R' US, described as the 1800 pound gorilla of the industry because they can dictate which toys make it) seemed sleazier. In the background, not mentioned, was the fact that most toys seem to be made in China these days, by workers paid starvation wages.

* Of course, a version of Barbie had been nominated for one category of toy of the year. Yuk.
