Deflationary Virus Spreading Worldwide Abstract: Toshihiko FUKUI (Chairman, Fujitsu Research Institute) argues that deflation is no longer a problem peculiar to Japan and the whole world is starting to see the phenomenon as it spreads across an increasingly integrated global economy. China, which has recently seen consumer prices declining, seems to be affecting other countries like Japan, and the government needs to work harder to deal with deflation, even if the role of monetary policy is of great importance, according to Mr. Fukui.
