> But I believe we lack the authority to do that. Some folks are good at Persian and some folks are good at computing but it's hard to find both qualities in one person and it's hard to find a group with both who can work together. I'm not saying you have to publish anything official but there are people out there who would just like to type a decent looking document in Persian and don't know where to turn for ANY hints as to how to reproduce the very beautiful style employed in LITERARY books/magazines published in Iran in recent years. What is the point of academies and ZWNJ's existing if frustrated PC users don't know about them? IMHO, the reason for not making use of spacing options (which are only reflecting normal handwriting) shouldn't be because the masses aren't capable of learning how to use them. There should be a desired *best* way which responsible people can learn how to implement.
> I guess the notion existed before that in the MacFarsi codepage (the first > paper mentioning the idea goes to about 1980). Wow! Ancient history. Too bad nobody's documenting all this. It's interesting. > I believe the hassle is not worth it. But otherwise you don't have anything against it? I'm dreaming of typing in Word and you type "mikonad" and a little red or green squiggly line appears letting you know you forgot something and the Office Assistant popping up asking to insert it for you! > For your situation, you should try Tavultesoft's Keyman which is at Thanks. I'd heard of it. Trouble is I don't have my own computer which I can freely reconfigure. Anyhow, even entering 4 digits on the keypad is a small price to pay for the nice results. Speaking of which I've got the ARabic 1256 code page in front of me and I'm trying to take a look at Behdad's NBSP (A0= 00A0) but I guess I can't do the math involved to convert hex to dec so I can enter it on my key pad. ZWNJ (9D= 200C) was easy: 9 * 16 = 144 + 13 = 157. But with A0, I'm getting 10 * 16 = 160 + 0 = 160 which must be wrong because the result is a space exactly the same width as regular space (although with formatting symbols displayed a small circle gets displayed to show it really is some sort of special space.) What am I doing wrong? -Connie _______________________________________________ PersianComputing mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.sharif.edu/mailman/listinfo/persiancomputing
