Hello,

I hope that this is the right e-mail and that someone can help us :)
We found a lot of small dead bugs between the canvas (painting) and the
stretcher.
Does anyone know what these bugs might be?

If the photos are not good, I can send some new ones...

Thank you in advance!

Maja

Hi Joel,

Size: 5-6 mm

It was found alive, crawling on a painted platform in front of a painted
altarpiece on wood panel. I don't have any photos of exit holes, but the raw
wood visible on this altarpiece does have plenty of old signs of pest damage.
This is a loaned object that reportedly has been treated twice with anoxia in
the last year, for what type of pest activity I am not sure. (It is typically
on display in a church, however, so the likelihood of re-infestation seems high
in that kind of environment.) There was no frass visible below or around the
altarpiece, however this object is currently installed so I wasn't able to lift
it up to examine very closely.

Thanks,
Cara

Hello all,
I've discovered what I believe is a type of powderpost beetle (photos attached).
Would someone please confirm this ID for me?
Thanks very much for your attention and help,

Hi all,

One of our volunteers brought this into the museum last week while I was out,
and said she found it in her couch. Unfortunately, I've only seen the photos,
as she took it back home since I wasn't here. It does kind of look like a bed
bug, but seems to lack the point at the end of the abdomen and she said she
didn't see the distinctive horizontal sectioning you see with bed bugs. Any
thoughts? I'm curious in case it is a bed bug, but also if it's a pest that
just looks a lot like one. Apologies that the pictures aren't better.

Thank you!
Robyn

RE: [pestlist] Drywood Termites

2016-09-09 Thread Plummer, Jude (ISD)
This is spot on so far…a thorough inspection to see how far these critters have
gotten so far, project the probabilities of future showings by evaluating the
wood in the structure (sometimes there isn’t much to worry about), the wood
fixtures and furnishings, etc.
You have the urban entomology folks there that can really help.

replacing the infested pieces of wood. Tenting and fumigation may well be
unnecessary. But inspect the area around the infested location very carefully
before proceeding.

Dear Pestlist,

I am seeking advice on the treatment of drywood termites in the structure of
one of our historic library structures here at UF. We are aware that there are
termites in the window frames in one of our archival storage rooms. The entire
building holds special collections library and archival materials, reading
rooms, exhibition spaces, and other public areas.

We are investigating the extent of the infestation, as well as the approach
that our campus facilities group recommends. We know that on other campus
buildings, the approach is to tent and treat, but moving our collections is not
feasible, so any treatment must be done with collections in situ. As both
termites and (possible) building-wide treatment are new issues in my career, I
am interested in any guidance or resources that you can share.

Many thanks,

Fletcher

Hi all,

We discovered some bugs in one of our exhibits cases yesterday and would
appreciate help with an ID. Luckily the materials in the case are not actually
collections, but bugs anywhere are concerning. Sorry about the poor photo
quality, they were taken with a cell phone.
