Some old versions of readline don't have rl_completion_append character so
the safest thing to do would be to upgrade your readline library, if
possible. However, the strange thing is that there is a configure check
against that. Perhaps you need to do make distclean and reconfigure and
rebuild. I
Performance degradations may also be due to lacking a daily "vacuum analyze;", which
tells the optimizer how it should work.
