It works now.

The following program works now:

Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
stmt.execute("Create Table bit_tab (b bit)");
 
PreparedStatement pstmt = con.prepareStatement("insert into bit_tab
values (?)");
pstmt.setBoolean(1,true);
pstmt.execute();
