Hi folks

I built the kernel source (for the Helio using pgui-.config) from the CVS
link on the picoLinux home page.

It gives me messages like:

     Error -3 while decompressing
     [address range]

at boot up and/or when trying to read a gzip'd file.

It comes from fs/cramfs/uncompress.c

The kernel version is 2.4.0-test1-ac22 and a search on google reveals that
cramfs in some 2.4 test kernels is broken. Has anyone had a similar
problem, does anyone know how to fix in the 2.4.0-test1-ac22 kernel and will
this be fixed in the 2.9 kernel?

Speaking of cramfs, the docs say its strictly read only. Ummmmmm, this may
be a stupid question but how is a PIM going to maintain files of data? Is
the trick to put data in RAM and never let the device lose power? So power
off becomes "power down but use enough battery to maintain stuff in RAM"

Speaking of the kernel, will th 2.4.0-test1-ac22 kernel support networking?
Has anyone tried it? I've got ping (via busybox) and it will ping 127.0.0.0
(or whatever loopback is) but won't let me ping the machine to which the
serial cable is attached. Do I have to specify networking via the serial
port in the kernel config somehow?

On the picoLinux web site, there is mention of a serial patch. From what
I've read, it sounds like the patch is necessary to get stuff transferred to
the Helio via rz and sz. Is that right? Will I also need this to do
networking via the serial port?

Another cramfs question. rcS looks like its treating the filesystem as
minix. Can that be done if the filesystem is cramfs?

Lastly, what does /sbin/ro do?

Thanks for putting up with all this

Mark
