Hmm.. With the recent thread on MP3 players in mind I ran across gstreamer.
Looks like it might be exactly what we need- Relatively small, (the site claims 10k
lines of code) very flexible, and completely gui-independent.

Nah, I usually use automake 1.4-p4 (from Debian Sid). I just had automake 1.5
temporarily because some mpeg tools required it.

At least for this one, solving the problem to make automake1.5 happy
will produce warnings for all the other users.
Here's another project idea... I doubt anybody has time to implement this at the
moment, but if this could be done at some time that would be cool.
I propose a test application that excersizes all features of picogui and at least one
client library. It would compare responses from pgserver to t
MAD_play also supports frontends, but it is a non-floating point mp3 decoder
and uses a ton less horsepower to play an mp3 than mpg123 or ogg123. I have
been able to play an mp3 on a pentium 75 with MADplay... something that cant
be done with mpg123.

Well, it would be good to have a standard substrate with which to connect the GUI,
backends, plugins, etc. This way you could use libmad on systems without floating
point, mpg123 on others, and have support for several formats like ogg, MODs, SPC,
AIFF, and more.
This is what xmms provides. I

mpg123 and mpg32
This is just a FYI...
Building pgserver with automake 1.5 fails with the following errors at autogen.sh:
autogen.sh:running: automake -a
automake: configure.in: installing `./depcomp'
etc/Makefile.am:16: deprecated feature: `gen-pgserver-conf' overrides
`gen-pgserver-conf$(EXEEXT)'
etc/Makefile.
AFAIK there's no music player app for picogui yet, but it would indeed be cool, and it
should be possible with the current state of picogui. Are there any open source media
player frameworks that are GUI-agnostic?
