Hi all,
I guess this list is pretty dead (like the website). I know picogui from my
psion days, and I decided to use picogui for some development work because
it's still much faster than anything else out there, and when you need a
gui that can run multiple apps on a 150MHz ARM9 machine with 32MB RAM you
need something faster than X windows, and something that doesn't need any
real graphics capabilities. Being able to run SDL programs, and already
having a terminal app, are also big wins. Looking around, picogui is still
really the only thing that fits the bill for this.
Anyway, I spent most of yesterday hacking, and managed to get the 0.46
build system and code updated to the extent that it now builds on a modern
OS. Unfortunately there are 64-bit compatibility issues with themec, which
I still need to look into, and I think that maybe the linux framebuffer has
changed since picogui's heyday (when I run the framebuffer servers I get
random looking text all over the screen - I'd be interested if anyone knows
anything about fixing this). But the X driver seems to work just fine.
I'm going to put the updated code onto github soon, and then look into the
x64 issues, then the framebuffer, then hopefully I can start writing the
apps I want, and getting it to build with an ARM cross compiler. I don't
think I'll actually be improving the code unless I run into bugs, but
thought someone out there might be interested anyway.
Cheers,
Ed
