Re: [Phono-L] Last Edison factory gets a reprieve

2016-10-13 Thread DanK via Phono-L
It was run successfully with Charles Edison as its president, until it
merged with McGraw in 1957. (You've never seen a 'McGraw-Edison' appliance?
I have a nice heater of theirs - cost me $2 at a yard sale 30 years ago, and
it still cranks out the BTUs very nicely!)

I am unaware of any "terminal decline" - maybe of the unused buildings
after the merger, but not Thomas A. Edison, Inc.

Does anyone know the history of what happened to the Edison company after
Tom died. It seems that they never really moved in any new direction other
than terminal decline..

Re: [Phono-L] odd-sized records

2016-04-03 Thread DanK via Phono-L
Kurt Nauck's record sleeves are the finest you will find, and worthy
protectors of your best records. If I could afford to buy 10,000 of them,
all of my records would be in Nauckvelopes. Barring a lottery win, I
intend to get enough to cover my 'odd' size records.

Richard,
Like you, I have 78s of varying sizes which can present storage issues.
It has been a while since 12-inch heavy-duty green sleeves were readily
available from former suppliers like Cohoes and Bags Unlimited. Maybe there
is a new source I haven't found yet.
Meanwhile, I think the logical best place for you to start is Kurt Nauck's
website which is www dot 78rpm dot com.
His resource center offers a large variety of sleeve sizes. Prices are
commensurate with the size and quantity you need. The sleeves are well-made,
rigid, and may do the trick for you.

I have heard tell here and there that Edison, and possible some other
companies, produced 2/4 minute conversion kits for the Triumph model A
phonograph, but I have never seen one, and I'm not sure I know anyone who
has. Can anyone out there confirm the existence of such a beast? If so,
have you ever seen one for sale, and what did it go for?
