[PHP-DB] PASSWORD('xxxxx') and PHP

Is there a way to encode a string in PHP exactly like MySQL does it in its
PASSWORD() Function?

Reason being Is I have a table with PASSWORD() encoded fields that I need to
compare from PHP.
