Is the file you are trying to save parsed php?  If it is parsed, I have no Idea 
what your problem is, but its probably not apache-php.
otherwise, Its possible, you need to add handlers in your apache conf to 
instruct apache to run .php files as php
something like  

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
