this is not so easy, I think. if PHP does not strip first
line, PHP just prints that line, because that line should outside of the
script. maybe we need some kind of a flag in CG, but it'll be an ugly
hack.
hmm, any idea?
or leave this as the PHP spec? :)

nah...
If it(==from_encoding) is not specified, the internal encoding will be
used. (http://jp.php.net/manual/en/function.mb-convert-encoding.php)
so it's just because mbstring.internal_encoding is not properly set?

I vote to remove mbstring as a default module.
I guess you have never tried to create a truely globalized/localized
and
I'll fix that problem ASAP.

- again, those features make japanese (and the people who use
multibyte-encoding) happy.
I hope that you feel this patch acceptable:)

Hello,
sounds like an interesting thing for PHP 5! I'm pretty sure more like
this can be implemented to make mb encodings better supported.

I agree. Especially I'm curious about how Zend menbers think about this because
most of changes are Zend Engine related.
I'll request karma for appropriate modules *if* these features were
accepted. Thanks for your advice!
