The problem has gotten so bad that one of our programmers was forced to write a script
to refresh the page when a 508 bad gateway error occured.

libphp4.so, but the run path is not there. I ran libtool without
the --silent to see what it was doing and got this:

HTTP is being used? I'm thinking that maybe some other MIME handlers designed
for email are being re-purposed in PHP here and cannot properly handle binary
data.
