make a file called, test.php
with these lines in it:
stick it into your web server directory and point a browser at it, if it
doesn't work send error messages.

The steps i follow were:
1: gzip -d < php-4.0.4pl1.tar.gz | tar xvf -
2: cd php-4.0.4pl1
3: ./configure --with-nsapi=/usr/netscape/server4/ --enable-tracks-vars
--enable-libgcc (because i want to uset with iplanet web server)
