Easier to learn than Perl, comparable learning curves with CF imo, probably a bit easier than ASP initially. Cheaper to deploy than CF since it's free, same for ASP. As for speed in building applications, I'd say that given someone has the same ability in any of the 4 (PHP, ASP, CF, Perl)
