try using:
extension_dir = c:\php\extensions
that's what i use on my Win32 machine
with an identical install as Liviu.

Basically if you don't have this file you can't use it.
try to see if it exist first. If not go to www.php4win.de or www.php.net and
download the complete PHP Win32 binaries.
