you could either:

1) re-install apache with PHP as a module
2) install PHP as CGI and leave apache alone

if you're new to linux, and the box is not a production
machine, i highly reccomend option #2... 
if apache ain't broke, dont fix it ;)

You can use gnoRPM to remove the apache package. Then look here:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.apache.php
