Check out Alfresco. It's basicly a (E)CMS, which you upload word / excel / etc. It may do everything you want, or you may be able to extract the parts you want and leave the rest, or it may be of no use to you whatsoever. It basicly sets up an OOo daemon, and connects to it to do its
