$printerFriendlyContent = eregi_replace('<img[^>]*>', '', $htmlContent);

You can also use
$printerFriendlyContent = eregi_replace('src="[^"]*"',
'src="images/spacer.gif"', $htmlContent);
to preserve formatting (spacer.gif = 1x1 px transparent)
