Apparently does not, since a second bug was filed after mine was
classified as Bogus. I have also tried a completely clean install

In simple hope to provide an option to you, I'll assume that you are
refering to the Thread-prioritization performance problems discussed
in this thread,
If you read the bug reports you will see that this is a fresh MySQL
install from the package available at mysql.org and I have been able
to reproduce this error on multiple systems with multiple versions of
MySQL.
If I make symlinks everything works as it should so that tells me

As they may be interesting, can you point to the patches, perhaps?
It would be helpful, thanks!

I don't know these patches. But, It's most probably true that such

bug, so maybe they will take this issue more seriously.

As can be seen from the debug.log, PHP attempts to read from /usr/
local/mysql/lib/mysql, which doesn't exist. It should be looking in /
usr/local/mysql/lib. I'm running Mac OS 10.4.10/x86, with nothing
else interesting about my setup. Everything worked up to PHP 5.2.3 on
this.
