Installed the PHP binaries as per the instructions, and configured the httpd.conf for
apache 1.3,
once i restarted apache, I tested with the standard hello.php page indicated on the
tutorial.

console as opposed to a service.

PHP version 4.3.0 installed from php-4.3.0-installer.exe. Also downloaded
the zip file
This runs Apache as CGI rather than as a module which for your purposes will
work just fine.
