Zebra is based on vertical partition, as Jing Huang pointed in the above
jira. I think understanding ColumnGroup and Partition will be a good start.

javadocs+code are basically all the available documentation
The wiki has a couple of usage examples: http://wiki.apache.org/pig/zebra
