Diffraction occurs when waves bend around an obstacle. In the ocean you can see
the big waves ( the sun) bend around the point of land to the shore. On a calm
sea the effect is minimal. Sunlight
will also be broken into different wavelengths (colors) to produce some

Dear All,
The Pinhole Day website is beautiful and impressive. Many thanks to
all who put it together and (have or will) contribute photos to it.
It is especially impressive given the short time frame between the
idea and the event. The website will certainly be a catalyst to more
participation
how a lens-less camera could possibly "flare.
I think it more a case of light refracting off the edge of the pinhole when
shooting into the light source. This has happened to me when using hand made
piholes, but may be common to all. Kurt

I get the same thing every time I shoot "into the sun," using both
my Zero 2000 and my Leonardo 4x5. You're not alone! This has
been discussed on the list before, and I followed with great interest.
Nothing was really resolved (not that it should have been), but

Hard to know, but you may have internal reflections of some sort. Also, were
the pictures taken pointing into the sun. I get all sorts of odd flares I
have never been able to figure out. the best precaution is to be sure
everything inside is flat balck and that you don't point into the sun.

I have now "shot" my first roll of pinhole on my customized Ricohcord camera
with a special result I've not seen before on my pinholes.
There is a distinct flaring in the centre of the negative. Comments anyone?

Happy WPPD to one and all,
I am realy impressed with all the images that have been submitted, and can't
wait to see what is to come. One thing that suprised me the most was the
WPPD barbecue that was held at RIT, way to go guys. Please when you post
your images note that you were at the barbecue.
Mike, I saw your posting to the discussion list and have corrected your
statement in the exhibit.
Everyone, It will help those of us reviewing the submissions to keep track
of things if questions and requests of this type are sent to
supp...@pinholeday.org, rather than to the discussion list.

Is there a problem with the submission form?
I tried to include a short artist statement of well less than 100 words
and I was not able to submit the form untill I had deleted most of it.
(The submission page reported that the statement was too long!)
