The first question should be what are you going to do with the scanner?
If you simply want something to scan images to put on web pages you can
use a fairly inexpensive one.
If you want to use it for some kind of digitally based reproduction
you need to consider what kind of resultion
We have an epson 1640 SU photo scanner at work. It comes with a
transparency unit that will do up to 4x5. Good quality scanner 1600x3200
hardware resolution with 42bit color depth.
