Package: libsfcgal1
Version: 1.3.3-1
Severity: serious

I have postgresql-9.6-postgis-2.3 installed (no longer in Debian
buster, but was in stretch, current stable). After upgrading libsfcgal1
and trying to use postgis on my existing Postgres 9.6 server, I get an
error when trying to access a table with a geography column:

ari@ari:~ % psql
ari=# \d+
location_order_providers

ERROR: could not load library

That would be fine if I could upgrade the database to Postgres 10, since
the new postgresql-10-postgis-2.4 package doesn't depend on libsfcgal1,
but I can't do that with the missing symbol:

ari@ari:~ % sudo pg_upgradecluster 9.6 main

upgrade...

Restarting old cluster with restricted
connections...

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSFCGAL.so.1: undefined symbol:

If I downgrade libsfcgal1, all of that works fine.

Upgrading postgis databases is not supported by the Debian package. You
need to recreate the postgis databases, or use the symlink hacks.

The postgis package in unstable will be rebuilt with the new sfcgal once
that migrates to testing.

Hi,

I would like to upgrade CGAL from 4.9 to 4.11 but if I do so your package
FTBFS. Therefore (and because of the SONAME transition), CGAL 4.11 has been
uploaded to experimental for now instead of sid.

Attached is an excerpt from the build log with the errors.

postgis-java build depends on openjdk-8-jdk-headless, which is not
expected to be part of the buster release.

Build-Depends-Indep: default-jdk-headless,
 openjdk-8-jdk-headless | java7-sdk-headless,

Java 7 is even in jessie, I wonder whether the second line here
could just be removed with default-jdk-headless already covering
the required JDK in all cases.

No, there is no sh4 porterbox listed on machines.cgi. And even if there
was, there most likely won't be any actual users of qgis on sh4, so I
don't think it's worth the effort.

If the porters want to fix qgis on sh4 they are welcome to send a patch,
but their time is better spent on more important packages.

Package: python-mpop
Version: 1.5.0-1
Severity: minor

Dear maintainers,

With python-mpop 1.5.0-1, while the autopkgtests continue to pass fine on
amd64 as seen at <https://ci.debian.net/packages/p/python-mpop/>, but an
added upstream test makes assumptions about the python hash() function that
don't hold on 32-bit archs, as seen in Ubuntu at
<http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/p/python-mpop/bionic/i386>.

Since there doesn't seem to be any reason to care that the cache filename
schema is consistent across architectures, and in any case this wasn't a
blocker for this version of python-mpop to reach testing, I think the test
should be fixed to be portable to 32-bit architectures. The attached patch
achieves this, and has been uploaded to Ubuntu.

Please consider applying this change in Debian as well.

OpenLayers 3 and later are based on Node.js, and turned out impossible
to package for Debian, see:

 https://lists.debian.org/debian-gis/2015/07/msg00026.html

This situation is unlikely to change, so there won't be an update of the
openlayers package to a newer version.

Package: libhdf5-java
Version: 1.10.0-patch1+docs-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I have just discovered that the libhdf5-java package fails to ship
the jarhdf5.jar file. This makes the HDF5 java bindings unusable
(this came up whilst trying to compile the newly released hdfview).

The problem seems to be the use of $(upstreamversion) to rename
the jar file in the install rule and also that jh_installlibs
is not being called.

I've hacked around it for now by changing the dh_install_java
rule in debian/rules to contain:

dh_install_java: build_serial
mv debian/build-serial/java/src/jarhdf5-*.jar
debian/build-serial/java/src/jarhdf5.jar
jh_installlibs

which ensures that the jar is shipped - this may not be the
solution which you want to use.

This problem affects stable as well as unstable (as it's the same
version).

Thanks,

Mark

Severity: serious

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'stable'.
It installed fine in 'stable', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a
Breaks+Replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/#overwriting-files-and-replacing-packages-replaces

This test intentionally skipped 'testing' to find file overwrite
problems before packages migrate from 'unstable' to 'testing'.

merkaartor fails to cross build from source. It runs lrelease, but
lrelease tends to do nothing and just warn you about that unless you add
qt5-qmake:native to Build-Depends. This smells like a policy 4.6
violation, but adding the missing dependency fixes it. Then the bare
qmake invocation misses out all the flags needed for cross compilation
that dh_auto_configure knows about. After indirecting it through
dh_auto_configure, merkaartor cross builds successfully. Please consider
applying the attached patch.

Package: postgresql-9.4-postgis-2.1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Dear Maintainer,

Due to missing postgresql-9.4-postgis-2.1 in stretch, a postgis enabled
database becomes corrupt when upgrading from jessie to stretch since
the required postgis libraries are missing. This can cause serious data
loss, because once upgraded to stretch, the postgis data can't be
accesed nor dumped (Database gives error "could not access file
"$libdir/postgis-2.1": no such file or directory").
Also upgrading the database to postgresql-9.6 does not work.

The database is not corrupt, your old database still works (after
installing the old postgis).

See the 'more info' links for hack you can use to fix your upgrade.

For the time being upgrades of postgis databases using
pg_upgrade{,cluster} are not supported. You need to recreate the
database in the new cluster when not using the hacks.

As discussed previously on the pkg-grass-devel lists [0]:

"
The upgrade scenario is not supported by the Debian package, and is
 unlikely to become supported.

The package in Debian is only build against a single postgresql
version.

This problem with upgrades is a known issue, and is something is
upstream is working on but no solution is available yet.

If you have sufficiently large database that reimporting the data in
new

database is not a viable option, you're better of building postgis
 yourself.

Dear Maintainer,

In the transition that has just started, libqscintilla2-dev has been renamed
libqscintilla2-qt4-dev to match upstream changes. libqscintilla2-qt4-dev
provides libqscintilla2-dev, so your package won't immediately FTBFS, but it
would be good to update the build-depends in your next upload.

If you plan an upload soon, please let us know so that we con't binNMU the
package and save the buildd time of doing it twice.

Thanks,

Scott K

netcdf fails to cross build from source, because it uses
CHECK_C_SOURCE_RUNS. Fortunately, the only relevant check can easily be
turned into CHECK_C_SOURCE_COMPILES (by exploiting that arrays of
negative length cause a compile error). After doing so, netcdf cross
builds successfully. Please consider applying the attached patch.

Hi,

Whilst working on the Reproducible Builds effort [0], we noticed
that geographiclib could not be built reproducibly.

This is because the documentation generates a .tag file with the
absolute build path.

Patch attached that simply disables the generation of this file as
shipping it is not useful to end users as the referenced .cpp files
are not present at that location in the binary package.

When building third party software (namely NOAA's ferret, a.k.a.
ferret-vis on debian package system), it appears the file libnetcdf.a is
missing on the system, despite the libnetcdf11 and libnetcdf-dev
packages being properly installed.

This makes this libnetcdf-dev package almost unusable as is, and also
prevents most other softwares to build against it ... though this is no
security breach, nor system break nor data loss.

The debian package archive website (search form) confirms that this file
is present in libnetcdf-dev package in jessie but no longer in stretch.

When trying to rebuild from source package netcdf, here is the
transcript of interesting lines / warning / errors as root user (yeah I
know ...) on my debian9 desktop :

W: sorry I did not copy the exact message, but it said that many
dependancies could have been avoided provided some unused libs were
removed from the linking/compiling commands ...

# find . -name "libnetcdf.a"

# find . -iname "*.a"

still nothing ! I suspect there is a wrong extra "clean" sequence as
post-build script which erases all the static files just built !!

the next step for debian10 is to also clean the dynamic files ??

# CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/lib64/hdf5/serial/include"
LDFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64/hdf5/serial/lib ./configure
--prefix=/usr/local/netcdf4/ --disable-doxygen --enable-netcdf4
--disable-dap-remote-tests --disable-examples --disable-utilities
--disable-testsets

# make

# find . -name "libnetcdf.a"

./liblib/.libs/libnetcdf.a

MY CURRENT WORKAROUND =
cp -arf ./liblib/.libs/libnetcdf.a /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

PROPOSED SOLUTION =
please fix the clean sequence after the build to keep the static files
and put them into the -dev package ...

also please fix the unused libs during build/compile to reduce the
package dependancies as much as possible ... (isn't it reported
automatically and systematically for each package just before one distro
release ?)

many thanks in advance

best regards

Dear Debian GIS Project <pkg-grass-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org>,

As you might know we the Qt/KDE team are preparing to remove Qt4's WebKit
as announced in [announce].

[announce]
<https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2015/05/msg1.html>

Basically we are about to get the latest Qt4 point release and upstream is
migrating from WebKit to Bing in the Qt5 series, so we won't have much upstream
support for maintaining Qt4's WebKit.

In order to make this move, all packages directly or indirectly depending on
the Qt4's WebKit library have to either get ported to Qt5 or eventually get
removed from the Debian repositories.

Therefore, please take the time and:
- contact your upstream (if existing) and ask about the state of a Qt5
port of your application
- if there are no activities regarding porting, investigate whether there are
suitable alternatives for your users
- if there is a Qt5 port that is not yet packaged, consider packaging it
- if both the Qt4 and the Qt5 versions already coexist in the Debian
archives, consider removing the Qt4 version

= Porting =

Some of us where involved in various Qt4 to Qt5 migrations [migration] and we
know for sure that porting stuff from Qt4 to Qt5 is much much easier and less
painful than it was from Qt3 to Qt4.

We also understand that there is still a lot of software still using Qt4. In
order to ease the transition time we have provided Wheezy backports for Qt5.

Don't forget to take a look at the C++ API changes page [apichanges] whenever
you start porting your application.

[migration] http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/packagingqtstuff.html
[apichanges] http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/sourcebreaks.html

For any questions and issues, do not hesitate to contact the Debian Qt/KDE
team at debian-qt-...@lists.debian.org

Ana,
on behalf of the Qt4 maintainers
